As a former Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney, I fought crime at a local level throughout the city. As a practicing attorney for over 25 years, I am intimately familiar with our criminal laws, our court system, our police, our prison system and the legislation behind them all. I know exactly how crime affects every aspect of our lives, from taking the bus to a walk through one of our great city parks. I believe we should hold our city government to a much higher standard than we do now. We need good police officers, with good equipment and good pay. And we need a lot more of them. I am committed to fighting crime in a smart and serious way so we can call Philly the safest city in America.
David’s Plan to Support Public Safety and Quality of Life:
“Having a safe city is very important, and it is an immediate concern to people. Can we immediately make the city safer? I believe we can…”
As a Council Person, I will work hard to:
- Support Public Safety Personnel
- Ensure Fire, Police, and Emergency Staff is available
- Ensure Pay is Appropriate
- Provide Better Equipment
- Provide Better benefits, especially for injuries sustained in the line of duty
- Simplify paperwork; allow them to get back to serving the public faster
“People want to be safe walking out of their house or down the street; or riding SEPTA day or night.”
- Improve customer service for Town Watches, Residents and Visitors
- Ensure the appropriate personnel and equipment is available in all the Districts
- Push for Customer Service Bonus for Police based on calls supported
- Address Quality of Life Crimes
- Support the Owner / Resident in keeping their property and neighborhoods clear of nuisance issues
- Right of Way for the Owner / Resident of a Property, First!
- Families want to enjoy the local parks and even their own stoops
- Support the Owner / Resident in keeping their property and neighborhoods clear of nuisance issues
- Ensure Police are being used effectively to answer customer calls for help with technology like GPS
“If you call in an emergency, you should be able to get someone to your house.”
- Prioritize Crimes and Prison Space
- Violent Crimes (guns, knives, etc)
- Requires faster emergency response
- Bring to trial faster
- Ensure prosecutions stick and there’s somewhere to hold offenders
- Quality of Life Crimes
- Minor Crimes should have small bail vs. staying in jail in for days
- Better to utilize these resources for violent criminals instead
- Use “boot camps” / community service for minor offenses
- Create a learning environment to break the revolving door.
- Minor Crimes should have small bail vs. staying in jail in for days
- Violent Crimes (guns, knives, etc)
